The project
University of Tennessee: migration from Digital Commons to DSpace with 4Science: The University of Tennessee identified the need for an open-source solution and found DSpace and 4Science the perfect fit. Digital Commons, now part of Elsevier, did not meet the institution’s future needs and requirements.
The project will include migrating all digital objects (the primary file, supplemental files/bitstreams / related binary files, embargo and access restrictions, technical metadata, descriptive metadata, and licenses) to the new repository platform. TRACE (Tennessee Research and Creative Exchange) currently houses approximately 35,000 works. Around 5,000 new items are added to the repository annually, while approximately 1.3 million are downloaded yearly.
The new DSpace will feature ORCID synchronization, and the data model will be extended with several modules such as:
- UX Plus module: The module provides a collection of enhancements to DSpace, aiming to improve the User Experience for final users and repository administrators during their daily duties. (UX Plus FINAL)
- Content & Usage Statistics: This module brings enhancements and additional features to the default DSpace to monitor and understand the usage of the repository both in terms of content usage and from an administrative perspective. (Content & Usage Statistics FINAL)
- Embedded Audio & Video Streaming: Self-contained streaming solution, entirely based on open-source components (Video&AudioStreaming FINAL)
These are just some of the many significant enhancements the University of Tennessee will enjoy on its new DSpace platform.
