We’re happy to share significant progress in the implementation of COAR Notify within the DSpace ecosystem. The recent launch of COAR Notify in the CSIC (Spanish National Research Council) that uses DSpace-CRIS repository platform marks a major milestone for open science and interoperability.
As the lead contributor to the DSpace community, 4Science is proud to have played a key role in bringing COAR Notify to the DSpace platform. The COAR Notify Protocol facilitates seamless, automated notifications for content exchange and updates between repositories and other scholarly platforms.
We’re excited to see progress and innovation in DSpace and COAR and we are happy to see users and administrators utilize these enabling features in DSpace 8!
What is COAR NOTIFY?
The COAR Notify Project helps different platforms where people store research (like papers or studies) talk/connect to each other and send alerts when something important happens. DSpace is one of these platforms, the most widely adopted in the Open Science field, and so it’s important that the change starts from there for the benefit of all the institutions. So, COAR Notify makes DSpace and other platforms more interoperable enhancing the value and the prestige of institutions all around the world
Use Case Example:
Imagine you upload a publication or a project into DSpace. Later, another student from a different institution uses your project in their own research. With COAR Notify, you’ll get a notification in DSpace saying, “Hey, someone used your project in their study!” If they update their study or get feedback from a teacher, you’ll also be notified thanks to the bi-directional linking.
Basically, COAR Notify connects these platforms, so you know when your work is being used or updated by others, helping everyone stay informed and helping quality and up-to-date dissemination.
Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to enhance DSpace with cutting-edge features that support open science and scholarly communication.
