The Bank of Italy chooses 4Science to enhance their digital cultural heritage
4Science was awarded the public tender issued by the Bank of Italy for the development of the project to enhance and publish its digital cultural heritage.
A modern and interoperable Digital Library
Thanks to DSpace-GLAM, 4Science will provide the Institute with a state-of-the-art Digital Library Management System (DLMS), capable of managing the digital content of the Paolo Baffi Library in a structured and interoperable manner. The system will ensure the management, consultation, access, and preservation of both digital publications and the digitized book heritage, particularly regarding ancient works or collections preserved solely by the Bank.
Participate in the merger between DSpace & DSpace-CRIS!
The DSpace community shared the Strategic Vision document developed by the DSpace and DSpace-CRIS Strategic Planning Group, reviewed by DSpace Governance, and approved by DSpace Steering.
A central deliverable of the Strategic Planning Group, the Strategic Vision document outlines a long-term strategic direction and goals of a potential merged product (DSpace) and clarifies that a potential merger would not replace DSpace, but would enhance DSpace functionality and its technical aspects.
The community wants to hear from you as we work together to shape the future of DSpace. To ensure the Strategic and Technology Planning Groups hear from all corners of our community – and to give them the opportunity to incorporate your questions, concerns, and ideas in their discussions. We invite you to share your feedback using the form below: https://tally.so/r/mZLgjv
The DSpace community is planning a potential merger Q&A webinar for September and having your feedback and questions ahead of time will help with the webinar planning!
4Science DSpace technical updates discussion
As always, the 4Science team is deeply involved in the DSpace development, bringing ideas and solutions to let DSpace evolve. Over the last months our team has focused its attention on two major areas of improvement.
UI Modularization with NX
The DSpace Product Visioning Group back in its final report dated 2021 but still very actual https://wiki.lyrasis.org/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=199525834 hightlighted the need to modularize the DSpace architecture and empower users as the two top priorities. More specifically, a better support for plugins and customizations was deemed necessary to accomplish the task.
Possible Audit Trail Feature for DSpace
Another major proposal from 4Science is about the introduction of an Audit Trail feature in DSpace. Having an audit trail mechanism is a critical feature in many use cases where data integrity and compliance must be guaranteed. Knowing Who, What, When have performed action in the repository help to build trust in the tools and streamline the administration tasks allowing a more decentralized management of the data without the risk to lose control.
