4Science at the Barcelona Declaration Conference 2026: Open research information is a cornerstone of transparent, reproducible, and collaborative science. At 4Science, we believe that research information should be openly accessible, interoperable, and free from proprietary lock-in — and that is exactly what the Barcelona Declaration on Open Research Information stands for. We are proud to reaffirm our sincere support for the Barcelona Declaration and its mission.
Supporting the Conference — and Its Participants
4Science at the Barcelona Declaration Conference 2026: The 2026 Conference of the Barcelona Declaration on Open Research Information — themed “Aligning Policy & Practical Implementation” — will take place on November 24–25 at the Leibniz Association headquarters in Berlin, with online participation also available. The conference is organized by the Barcelona Declaration together with the Leibniz Association and the Helmholtz Open Science Office.
4Science is a supporter of the conference, contributing to the Participation Support Fund. This fund helps overcome financial barriers to in-person attendance by covering travel and accommodation costs for participants from countries including Austria, Brazil, Chile, France, Georgia, India, Mexico, and Nigeria. Thanks to the generosity of all contributing organizations, the conference is free of charge for all participants — both in person and online. We are glad to play our part in making this important event as inclusive and internationally representative as possible.
4Science in Berlin
We will be attending the conference in person in Berlin, joining the international community of signatories, supporters, and stakeholders to exchange ideas on how to align open research information policies with practical implementation. The programme features keynote panels connecting policy perspectives with institutional priorities, presentations on topics ranging from institutional implementation to funder perspectives, and interactive group discussions — alongside a poster exhibition showcasing projects and initiatives from across the Barcelona Declaration community.
Joining the German Satellite Event
On November 26 — the day after the conference — a German-language satellite event will take place at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin: “Offene Forschungsinformationen in Deutschland – Vernetzungstreffen begleitend zur Barcelona Declaration Conference 2026.” This networking meeting brings together stakeholders, institutions, initiatives, and projects working with research information systems and open research information in the German-speaking region (DACH). The goal is to better connect the sometimes fragmented activities and communities and to advance open research information in German academia across institutional boundaries. We will be joining this event in person as well, because advancing open research information is not just a global effort — it requires strong local and regional networks too.
Our Commitment
4Science has long been committed to open science and open research information. Supporting the Barcelona Declaration and its conference is a natural extension of this commitment. We look forward to engaging with the community in Berlin and to continuing our work toward a more open, transparent, and equitable research information landscape.
